In the Lower East Side , manhattan, a particular area is recognized as "LOISAIDA", in recognition of the puerto rican heritage, of the neighborhood. Loisaida has a long history with the young hip crowd! I spent alot of time hanging out in the lower east side, from the late 80's up until now. From the era of house music at "The World", late 80's. To countless bars, restaurants, hotel bars in the 90's and 2000's. I went to murray bergtraum high school, in lower manhattan, i had many friends from the lower east side. I remember after school, you could find many playing handball, under the brooklyn bridge, next to our school. From the Lower east side, east new york, bronx, bushwick, east harlem, queens, bedstuy, flatbush etc.. and many other parts of new york & tristate area, handball courts have a long history, and still today handball is being played, on these courts. This t-shirt pays homage to the rise of salsa park jams & hip hop park jams of the late 70's and early 80's! Simultaneously coinciding with the popularity of handball in new york city parks, in the early 80's! Why The year 1982? That year for Songs like Junior: "Mama Use To Say", Soul Sonic Force: "Planet Rock", "World Famous Supreme Team" hip hop radio show, Toto: Africa, block parties, Hall & Oates: I can't go for that, Harlemworld nightclub, Hip Hop Jams in the Park etc...
